Fracchia. Edited by Robert J. Chandler. Oblong 4to. xiii, [1], 84pp. Title printed in black, red and green. Tipped-on color frontis portrait, 14 black and white photographs from old prints, surveying maps, etc. Dark green cloth spine lettered in gilt, decorated boards. A very fine, as new copy in the plain white dust jacket. From the collection of Robert Chandler, signed by him on the inside front cover. Life of this Irish-born California pioneer, from the mid 1840's through his death in 1875. O'Farrell was trained as a civil engineer in Dublin, was appointed Surveyor-General of Alta California and in 1847 mapped San Francisco. One street in the gridiron plan he extended for the city was later named for him. This beautifully produced work also covers his life as a farmer and rancher, his political life (1858-1860), his later years, etc. Scarce!.
