TO THE HONORABLE THE MAYOR AND COMMONALTY OF THE CITY OF NEW-YORK. THE PETITION OF JOHN A. PARKER, MERCHANT OF THE CITY OF NEW-YORK..
1837 · [New York
by Parker, John A.
[New York: George F. Nesbitt. December 20,, 1837. Contemporary plain wrappers [dirty], stitched, 8pp. Text clean, margins with scattered soil. Good+. A trader in wool, Parker seeks to erect "on the site of the late Franklin Market, between Front and Water-streets in Old-Slip, a large building to be used as a Wool Market...and also furnish ample accommodations for an open market for the use of the country people." New York lacks a "public place where the producers of that article or those who bring it from the country for sale, can dispose of it in open market." His petition, seeking a free ground lease, explains the economic importance of Wool to the future of New York. Not in American Imprints, Sabin, or-- evidently-- NUC. (Inventory #: 15208)
