Fascinating work compiling stories of Jewish life, some relating to the religious persecution of the Jews in Spain during the Inquisition. This work is profusely illustrated with 11 b/w and 1 color full-page illustrations by T. H. Robinson. Walter Jerrold's provides biographical information about the author. Head and tail of spine frayed. Pages chipped and curled at the age due to aging, but still readable. Overall in fair condition. Grace Aguilar was an early 19th century English novelist descended from Portuguese conversos. She was an advocate of reform and a foe, despite her close association with Christians, of the conversionists. She died at age 31.
