Publisher's blue printed wraps with thin cloth spine. 2 errata sheets tipped onto second leaf front, additional note glued to bottom of page 4 noting second letter from Janicki received that should be appended in report. 8 plates (some folding) bound in at page 170. Spine cloth detaching top 2 inches and bottom inch but still sound. Ex-library with remnants of library sticker bottom of spine, and a few pencilled notations internally. Binding separating at errata with threads showing and some tearing to pages by thread. Otherwise clean internally. Wraps. Bvt. Colonel Wm. E. Merrill publishes here several foreign treatises in English translation to assist American engineers in determining the best strategies to improve rivers for the benefit of use in commerce, based on the more extensive international histories. Pages 171-194 is a translation of Janicki's second letter.
