From the Introduction: "The Cornell Petrarch Collection, and this catalogue, are the product of the character and purpose of the collector, Willard Fiske". Fiske (1831-1904) began sending his Dante collection to Cornell in 1893; his Icelandic and Petrarch collections would arrive in 1905, as per his will. A catalogue of the latter collection was originally published in 1916 by Oxford University Press; this new bibliography reflects the growth that the original collection has undergone over the course of several decades.
