By OGILBY, J
London, 1671. No Binding. Near Fine. 10 ¾ x 14 inches. Fine hand color; excellent condition. Richly colored, finely detailed view of the oldest city in the United States. The northernmost bastion of the Spanish empire in America, the city is here depicted during a time of strength and prosperity with a busy harbor, lively scenes of trade, and its fort in good repair. The three Spanish galleons in the harbor are especially well delineated. The mountains in the background suggest that the view is at least partially fictional. Deak, G. G. Picturing America, no. 50.
