The poet's offering

Boston: Phillips and Simpson, 1847. xi, 372p., tissue-guarded steel engraved frontis, first edition 7.7x4.8 inch cloth casing with title, cover device and floral spine gilt over panellings in blind. Extremities somewhat worn, with corner tips and spine rims showing minute bits of card, cloth is rubbed, gilt mildly dim. Find lots of foxing within (frontis tissue-guard par excellence), there's a started central signature, rear free endsheet is badly ripped (a closed tear), and a very faint neat old ownership name, pencilled ("Margaret" thought "Catherine" should have this). Hinges remain quite good; a clean, largely sound copy. Mystical Christian poetry, (truncated) much of it sophisticated as to idea and technique, but.. much of it weak; this poet will not turn up in anthologies. (Inventory #: 175390)
