Hanff's important work provides an analysis of "America's most famous fantasy" and explores some of the particular facts and circumstances that helped establish Baum's work as an American classic. This work is considered a pioneering study of printing and publishing on the prairies, and an excellent study of the influence of the Arts & Crafts movement in Chicago on American book design.
