First published in the Atlantic Monthly in 1864 and incorporated into Tales of a Wayside Inn as "The Spanish Jew's Tale. / Kambalu. Begun January 26, 1864 - Finished February 12, 1864. " His source for the "Kambalu" is Il Milione by Marco Polo.
