A German humanist and philosopher, Agricola was also active as a musician. "[He] is regarded as one of the most important figures in the transmission to northern Europe of Italian humanism. His interest in music and his practical musical ability distinguish him from many of his contemporary humanistic scholars and mark a turning point in the relationship between this broad intellectual movement and music.
