Marbled endpapers. Vignette on title page. Decorative head-, tailpieces, and initials. Very little is known about the author François Nicolas Charbuy. He was a professor of French Literature. Completed his studies at the College Mazarin and was then appointed professor of eloquence at Orleans. The present copy of his work on jewish history was published anonymously (truncated) in 1759. This volume contains 5 striking illustrated vignettes by Gravelot that were engraved by Saint-Aubin. Binding rubbed along edges. Head and tail of spine chipped. Very minor and sporadic light foxing and age-toning throughout. Text in French. Binding in overall good-, interior in good+ to very good condition. (Inventory #: 35529)
