Munchen: Verlag Albert Langen. First Edition. Decorated Cloth. Very Good. N.d., circa 1900. Folio-sized, measuring 40 by 30 cm, 16 by 11.75 inches. With 32 large color plates, all using one or two colors besides black and white. The captions poke light fun at the Prussian, and German, military and militarism, as well as the common attitudes of the ranks and file at the time. Much of the humor is now somewhat obscure, which is part of its academic fascination. The drawings, regardless, capture the time and spirit of the German army and navy of the period when it was at the height of its prestige. The cover has light soiling and wear. The original endpapers have edge chips and a closed tear along the front hinge. The contents are quite clean.
