Salesman sample catalogue for Nishijin-ori Obi brocade silk textiles with swatches & colour photographs. 48 elaborately woven color samples from 1 1/2" x 6" to 2 1/2" x 6" tipped in on thick card stock. Green raw silk covers tied at end. Gilt calligraphy in Japanesse characters on cover. Brocades used for ceremonial kimonos, costumes for traditional plays & doll clothing. Each has a description of weaving style. The photos show the cloth in complete pieces. The patterns include historic scenes, floral patterns & traditional motifs. This group of weavers in Kyoto have maintained the traditional craft & art since the 1400's, but have adapted new technoligies & techniques.
