He came to Hawaii on vacation in the pre-statehood days and decided to stay - first in Honolulu and then eventually in Kona near White Sands Beach, now Laaloa Beach Park. Throughout his life he wrote several books - some of them poetry compilations and others, including the current one, of inspirational sayings and poetical musings.
