This volume collects and reprints papers on electrical waves first published between 1887-1890 in Annalen der Physik und Chemie. Includes explanatory notes and Hertz's 31 page introduction.

Hertz produced experimental proof of Faraday and Maxwell's hypothesis that 'electrical waves can be projected through (truncated) space...' starting in 1887. 'By inducing the waves to produce an electric spark at a distance, with no apparent connexion between the oscillator and the spark gap, and by moving the sparking apparatus so that the length of the spark varied, [Hertz] proved beyond question the passage of electric waves through space...J. J. Thomson described the results as 'one of the most marvelous triumphs of experimental skill.''
