Baxter Springs (Kansas): M. H. Gardner, Printer, 1888. Broadside printed on cloth, 43 x 33 cm., employing several sizes and styles of bold type. Baxter Springs had been a major cattle drive town, but began to decline after the railroads were built. OCLC locates fewer than 25 items printed in Baxter Springs between the 1860s and 1900, mostly newspapers and journals, with only a couple of individual books or pamphlets, and no listings at all for this printer. The sale seems reflective of the cow culture of the town. Very good.
