The Emporium was a department store chain headquartered in San Francisco which stayed in operation for 99 years - from 1896 to 1995. The store had a thriving book department which would periodically announce contests (for illustrations, for poetry, etc.) or in this case - a show where newly-published books for various age groups could be revealed to children. Some of the books included âBlaze and the Gypsies,â âThe Magic Show Book,â and âTales from Dickens.â
