Issued in conjunction with a 1981 exhibition of fantastical art by American painter William Holbrook Beard (1825-1900). With a lengthy essay by William H. Gerdts. The exhibition checklist cites 48 pieces, and the majority are pictured here. Includes an extensive bibliography. By far the major work on this artist. Because of the original glue used to affix the color plate to the cover, it will pop off once the cover is even slightly bent and will need to be re-affixed.
