Lupicini was a military engineer who as early as 1552 had been involved in the sieges of Montalcino and Monticchiello. He also worked as a hydraulic engineer for the city of Venice. The book offered here is his explanation of a new astronomical staff devised by him. It could be used for various surveying problems or as a geometrical quadrant, and cross-staff. The instrument also included a magnetic compass (Breman) and the text discusses its application to ballistics and cartography. This is the only printing of the treatise.
