1844 · London:
by Dyce, Alexander
London: Edward Moxon, 1844 First editeion. Original green blindstamped cloth with paper spine label. Octavo. Hinges cracked, but sound. Armorial bookplate. A very good, clean copy. A interesting commentary on two standard editions by Alexander Dyce (1798-1869), who published his own esteemed Shakespeare in nine volumes in 1857. Of Dyce's own edition, the Arthur Henry Bullen notes in the DNB: "Its textual criticism is of the highest value, and the brief annotations are always useful and to the point. The glossary is full and meets most of the difficulties. A vast number of Shakespearean students regard it as the most readable and satisfactory of all the editions of the dramatist.
