London: William Pickering, 1833 Original brown cloth with printed paper spine label. . Small octavo. Back joint starting to crack, cloth frayed at top of spine, label chipped and rubbed. Two old ownership signatures. A good, clean copy. Cory (1802-1842) was a fellow of Caius College, Cambridge. Beyond that, very little is known of him. The first of these works is an curious history of philosophy, focusing on logic and scientific method. Cory's other works include Ancient Fragments of the Phoenician, Chaldean, Egyptian, Tyrian, Carthaginian, Indian, Persian, and other writers, Greek and Latin (1832), which went through several editions, including one as recent as 1875; Practical Treatise on Accounts, Exhibiting a View of the Discrepancies Between the Practice of the Law and of Merchants (1839); and Competition: Its Abuse…with Suggestions for Remedying It (1842).
