The complete volume, bound in blue library buckram. Octavo. Rubberstamp on front pastedown. Very good. Binary counters, the forerunners of digital computer circuitry, were developed in the 1930s to count nuclear events detected by Geiger-Muller counters. This paper describes the development of the first counter built out of vacuum tubes, instead of thyratrons—tubes filled with mercury vapor. The vacuum-tube counter was approximately thirty times faster than previous counters based on thyratrons.
