The mid 18th century was a period of rapid technological innovation in agriculture. Duhamel du Monceau was an important exponent of modern techniques and the improvement of agricultural output. He is known for a number of books but the wokr offered here is rare and little known. It is a detailed exposition of the machinery and application specific architecture of granaries. The problem of spoilage imposed considerable economic hardship and medical danger. The book offered here is a clear attempt to adapt the latest in scientific ideas to a workable technology that could preserve crop yields and improve income. The plates are clear and specific in illustrating the special nature of the buildings and objectives for which the machinery was constructed. DSB IV, 223 -' 25; Poggendorff I, 618 - '19 (missing this title).
