A NEW GUIDE TO HEALTH: OR THE FARMERS' SECURITY AGAINST THE SPECULATIONS AND IMPOSISTIONS PRACTICED UPON THEM, BY THE MEDICAL FACULTY......
1833 · NP
NP: Printed for the author, 1833. 16 cm. 70 pp. Original cloth spine, plain blue paper over wooden boards (paper chipped on the front board, and lacking on the rear). On the top margin of the text, loss either from ink burn or insect, continuous throughout though not effecting text. Only one copy listed in OCLC at Univ. of Rochester Medical. Purports to be a workingman's guide to natural cures for illness, and midwifery for childbirth, reducing the jargon of medical practioners to common language. The author claims not to be a doctor and clearly has a bad opinion of them. It is clear the author was commercially minded as the last paragraph reads: "Agreement. This may certify, that I agree in the spirit of mutual interest to keep this book and its contents, as a secret from all those who have not bought one of the same...." (Inventory #: 60229)
