1886 · Gera:
by ZOLLNER, Johann Carl Friedrich (1834-1882).
Gera:: C.B. Griesbach, 1886., 1886. Third edition. 8vo. LXXVII, 354 pp. Frontispiece, 2 additional plates. Later blue gilt-stamped cloth. Some stains on leaves, but generally very good. First issued in 1872. From 1872 Zollner, astrophysicist and one who studied optical illusions, held the chair of astrophysics at Leipzig University. Zollner's work showed that electrical processes of considerable intensity must take place in comets. "Of far-reaching significance was Zollner's theory of comets, in which he correctly assumed that elements of the nucleus of a comet gradually vaporize as it nears the sun." / DSB XIV, p. 629.
