POEMS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WITH SOME OTHER COMPOSITIONS
1772 · Philadelphia
by Evans, Nathaniel
Philadelphia: John Dunlap, 1772. xxviii,[1]-160,[2],5-24pp. Modern unlettered morocco and 19th-century boards. Some normal foxing and browning, but a good copy, bound without the errata, as usual. First edition of the major posthumous collection of Evans' work. Evans died at the age of twenty-five, shortly after assuming the post of missionary for the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel to Gloucester County, New Jersey. Though his poems were clearly derivative of British masters, he is credited with some talent which remained unfulfilled due to his early death. An extensive subscribers' list testifies to his popularity. EVANS 12386. WEGELIN 133. (Inventory #: WRCAM3698)
