The author recounts his experiences in the California gold rush in the early 1850s, later service in the Civil War, capture by Confederates and exciting escape in Georgia, and return to Nevada and California in the 1870s, including chapters entitled "Seeking a Fortune" and "Life in the Gold Diggings."
