S. l. (London): Pears' Soap, 1880. Softcover. First edition, n. d. (ca 1880); 7 1/4 x 1 1/4; die-cut card stock; chromolithographed illustration to recto, advertising text to verso; one of the four with a small, repaired cut, the rest with very minor wear - near fine condition.A beautiful collection of Victorian bookmarks, they were very popular in the late 1800s. The Pears' Soap ones always featured their trademark, die-cut hand, which extended from the main body of the bookmark and hooked over the leaf of the book, which was being marked. The Pears' Soap was first manufactured and sold in 1807 in England and it was the first commercially-available, translucent soap.
