Second edition, revised and improved. 12mo. xii, (2), 309 pp. Introduction: "The object of this little book is to present a clear, compendious view of the history of the United States." With the Confederate ownership signature "Thomas Ross Robertson / Mt. Zion College / Winnsboro, S.C. / 9th Jan. 1861" on the front pastedown, accompanied by drawings of a schoolhouse (?), a primitive pencil sketch of a Confederate (?) soldier on the facing page, and a more detailed ink sketch of a Confederate (?) soldier on the verso of the final leaf. Robertson (1849-1922) was an 11-year old when the Civil War broke out, attending Mt. Zion, a prep school for the "sons of wealthy planters" from all parts of South Carolina, operating 1785-1878. Owner's name and drawings on endpaper and verso of final leaf, some foxing, several signatures a bit pulled, a good copy. Original brown cloth (rubbed, spine ends frayed), gilt spine title (dull).
