[x], 305 pp., 31 pages of color plates and 55 pages of bw photographs. A 1977 facsimile edition of this 1954 reference. "The book is divided into two parts. In Part I the author writes upon certain aspects which have interested him and attempts, largely by borrowing from other authors and researchers, to give a clear and up-to-date accunt of the existing knowledge of, and views upon, those aspects. The nature of Part I may be seen from the headings of the nine chapters which it contains. [The Process of Making China ; The Soft-paste Bristol Factory ; James Giles, Enameller ; Jeffreyes Hamett O'Neale ; Worcester Figures ; The Ground Colours and Borders ; Figure and Landscape Painting ; The 1769 Catalogue ; Collectors' Joys] Part II, which is a catalogue of Coloured Worcester Porcelain of the First Period, is more ambitious. It is an attempt to show by [1119] monochrome plates and accompanying brief catalogue descriptions as many different patterns as possible. It cannot possibly success in such an exhaustive aim, but it is hoped that it does give a much fuller view than has hitherto been presented and also that the index to it will enable anyone who is interested to find out quickly and easily whether any particular pattern is recorded or not." (foreword to Part I) Uncommon. (Inventory #: 152611)
