MOTHER OF PEARL MOUNTED ON WOOD - Axe; Four inches long from the blade to the handle
1901 · NP
by (REALIA) (CARRIE NATION)
NP: nd, 1901. This includes two metal tabs along the handle from which something could be hung. An temperance item, probably meant for display. We have seen a number of these hatchets over the years, none like this. Many are inscribed: "All Nations Welcome Except Carrie"! and were seen hung behind bars. Carrie Nation was known for her axe wielding temperance activities. (Inventory #: 55951)
