We have not seen the first edition, but the text of the second edition is considerably smaller than that of the present edition. Contemporary stiff vellum with a brown, gilt lettered leather spine label. Edges stained red. Twelvemo. Copper engraved frontispiece; added engraved title page, as well as printed title; two additional copper engraved plates. Gentle lean to spine. Binding extremities slightly rubbed with some minor soiling to boards. Slight foxing and toning. A few leaves have some very minor worming. A very good copy of a scarce work. Nouvelle Bibliotheque des Enfants is a children's book divided into four parts, which explores such diverse subjects as nature (the clouds, the winds, the sun, the ocean, the moon), mathematics (geometry, addition, subtraction, division), history, architecture, Confucius, Siecle, and a collection of fables ("The Little Prince and His Tutor," "The Gardener Punished by the Gods," "The Man and the Monkey, and others).
