S. l. (Salem, MA): Salem Gazette Press, 1910. Hardcover. Limited edition of unspecified number, possibly as little as 65 copies; 22 loose leaves in a portfolio; 10 heliotype plates, mounted on card stock sheets, plates approx. 3 1/2 x 5 1/2, sheets 14 x 11; each plate accompanied by a separate sheet with a description; two preliminary leaves - a preface and a list of subscribers; plates in fine condition; a few of the card stock sheets with small creases to corners and light age-toning to extreme margins; a small spot to the preface leaf; overall in very good to near fine condition. Portfolio of green cloth over boards and 3 silk ties; gilt title to front board; rebound, with most of the original cloth laid on. A beautiful and quite lavish work, it presents 10 famous landmarks in Salem from the time of the Witchcraft Trials in the 17th century Colonial America and most of them still standing at the time of publication. Included are the House of Roger Williams, the founder of the State of Rhode Island, later occupied by Jonathan Corwin, Esq., one of the Judges of the Special Court during the trials, and The Hunt House, said to have inspired Hawthorne's "House of the Seven Gables."
