Photograph of a Little Girl Framed in a Eglomise Painted Panel with Rose Decoration on Gilt
NA
Troy, New York
Troy, New York: Shroder. NA. Very Good. N.d., circa 1880. The girl in the photo is wearing velvet and lace, with a bonnet tied in a bow, and she is standing in front a log and there is a wilderness lake in the background, all of which may be a studio backdrop. We assume the child is a girl, but it is conceivable she is a boy since male and female tots were dressed virtually identically until about the age of four at that time. What is as or more special, though, is the oblong painted eglomise panel, which measures 19 by 23 cm. It has a brownish border, a gilt field, and rose flower decorations. (Inventory #: 004779)
