Jerusalem: The Jerusalem Chamber of Commerce, 1950. First edition. Hardcover. g- to vg. Quarto (11 x 8 3/4"). XX, 277, [1]pp. Original half olive over grey cloth, with gold lettering to spine and red lettering to front cover.

Illustrated with b/w photographic reproductions and charts, this work is one of the first economic surveys of Jerusalem since Israel declared its independence in May 1948. Its purpose is to "give the reader in the English-speaking world precise information on the numerous aspects of the economy of the Holy City," an economy which - while broadly comparable to that of any modern city of similar size - is quite peculiar to its own historical and sociological climate.

Includes an economic history of Jerusalem (by M. Avi-Yonah); a demographical survey (by Dr. H. V. Muhsam); an article on the absorption of new immigrants (by Deborah Eliner); the school system of Jerusalem (by M. Attias); the Jewish National Fund and the new Jerusalem; Keren Hayesod in Jerusalem; Jerusalem's political status (by I. A. Abbady); Jerusalem under the [1948] siege (by R. D. Elston), and many more.

Binding age-toned and partly rubbed along edges. Some offsetting to endpapers. Very first and very last pages slightly and partly rippled. Binding in overall good- to good, interior in good+ to very good condition.
