by CRASHAW, Richard and Francis Quarles (George Gilfillan, ed)
Edinburgh: James Nichol, 1852. First Thus. First Nichol edition, and first appearance of Gilfillan's critical notes. Octavo (20cm); early 20th-c. half-calf by Henderson & Bisset; top edge gilt; 368pp. Board corners touched, but still a very nicely preserved copy, in an attractive signed binding, of this standard 19th-c. edition of Crashaw & Quarles's principal works. Henderson & Bisset (of Edinburgh) were binders to Queen Victoria, most active from the 1830s-1890s but continuing at least into the first decade of the 20th century (per University of Edinburgh finding aid).
