1898. A single-fold 12" x 9" menu and programme for an annual meeting of the Hotel Men's Mutual Benefit Association. Stereotypical racist imagery of a banjo player and dancer on the front cover. The blatant racism persists on the Programme and Menu page within. Each menu course is prefaced by a song to be sung by the chorus or an individual. The song titled are written in stereotypical African American vernacular e.g. "Honey You'se Ma Lady Love" The fare is rich with little neck clams, fried soft shell crab, tenderloin of beef and lobster salad. The Hotel Men's Mutual Benefit Association was the predecessor to Bankers Life insurance company.
