[Boston, ca. 1897].. [37] leaves. Typescript pages, mounted onto blue card backing with thumb tacks. Previously folded, Edges of card backing chipping somewhat. Sporadic manuscript corrections, small new clipping attached to final leaf. A few small spots of dust soiling, but mostly internally clean. Nearly very good. An engaging typescript documenting a fin-de- siècle American tour of Europe. The voyage consisted of a party of thirty tourists, departing from Boston on a British steamer, the S.S. Canada, at the beginning of July 1897, and returning to New York nearly two months later, at the end of August. The writer narrates the group's journey, from its arrival in Liverpool, through Scotland and England from Glasgow and Edinburgh to London, thence to Paris and Brussels, through the Rhineland via Cologne and Heidelburg to Switzerland, and finally to Italy, where they visit several cities, including Venice, Florence, and Rome. A lively account of the Grand Tour, full of entertaining facts and lucid opinions. (Inventory #: WRCAM52347)
