These two essays on slavery were published as the Gehenna Tracts 2 to honor the bicentennial of John Woolman's death in 1772. This respected member of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Friends set down his thoughts to help guide his fellow Quakers to a better understanding of the immorality of slavery. Printed on blue paper at the end of the volume is "An Afterword on Woolman and Slavery" written by Frederick B. Tolles.
