llmenau: von Bernh Friedrich Voige, 1830. FIRST EDITION IN GERMAN. Original boards, gilt lettering on spine, covers a bit worn; some spotting, but generally in excellent conditions. From the library of Th. Renz with his light stamp on the verso of the title page. First edition in German translated by Dr. Carl von Fitzle (from the French of 1829) of a thorough treatise on gout and its treatment. The author, Dr. Louis Duringe, recounts the important results of his ten years’ experience in dealing with the disease in Wien, Berlin and London, concluding that gout is curable. He starts with a description of the symptoms and development of the disease, distinguishing between the regular, the chronic and the anomalous gout. He then outlines the treatments that have been used depending upon the specific type of gout, noting the different approaches and their effectiveness.
Duringe (b. 1780) born in Germany, moved to France where he settled and worked as a physician. He wrote Exposition de la doctrine médical Allemande (1827) and Monographie du rhumatisme ou études nouvelles etc. (1830; 1835).
