From the Electrotechnishes Institut in Vienna with their perforated stamp on both titles. First German edition of the first textbook to treat synthetically the works of Maxell, Kelvin and Helmholtz. “Since it concentrated the first French textbook that attempted to treat synthetically the work of Maxwell, Kelvin, and on applications as well as on theory, it became a standard work for engineers as well as for physicists” (DSB). A section treating the measurement of currents and comparing resistances and magnetic fields contains wonderful illustrations of instruments.

Mascart (1837-1908), French physicist, was noted for his research in optics, electricity and magnetism, and meteorology. He succeeded his mentor Henry Victor Regnault as a professor at the Collège de France, and was the first director of the Bureau Central Météorologique. Joubert (1834-1910) was a French professor best known for his collaboration with Pasteur on the precursor to antibiotics.
