Released at a time when much of this part of the world was unknown to the European traveler, the author describes his journeys through Tibet, Siberia, Tian Shan, and the Himalayas, including stories about the people he met and the fascinating political climate. This work provides a detailed and interesting look at life in Central Asia for both travelers and residents at the end of the nineteenth century.

Lawrence John Lumley Dundas, 2nd Marquess of Zetland (styled Lord Dundas until 1892 and Earl of Ronaldshay between 1892 and 1929), was a British Conservative politician. He served as Secretary of State for India in the late 1930’s.
