New York, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, San Francisco: Charles Sribner’s Sons, 1927. Numerous text and photographic illustrations, including a map of Illinois in 1812. Publisher’s cloth, author and title on front cover; interior in excellent shape. First and only edition. Maue’s work provides a streamlined narrative of the history of Illinois from its earliest settlers through the date of publication, intended for a younger (student) audience. Of particular interest is the details relating to establishment of settlements such as Chicago, Albion and Galena, as well as the growth of the territory before being granted statehood.. At the end of each chapter is a list of suggestions and problems for pupils.

There is not a great deal of information on the author. He wrote a number of books on Illinois history, including a history of Will County.
