A retablo, or laminas in Mexico, is a small painting on tin, zinc, copper or wood Ex-votos, or an offering to a saint or divinity, can take a wide variety of forms They are not only intended for the helping figure, but also as a testimony to later visits of the recieved help As such, they may inclue texts explaing a miracle attributed to the helper, or symbols such as a painted or modeled reproduction of a miraculously healed body part, or a directly related item such as a crutch offered from a person who had formerly been lame (Inventory #: 2239)
