From 1872 to 1876 Hueppe studied medicine at the Univ. of Berlin afterwards serving as a military surgeon. From 1880 to 1884 he was a member of the staff in Koch's laboratory and later worked with Fresinius in Wiesbaden. He was prof. at Charles Univ. in Prague. He is best remembered for his pioneering work in bacteriology specifically on the chemical stimulation and inhibition of bacterial growth.
