New York: Abrams, 1977. FIRST EDITION. With 223 illustrations, including 66 color plates. Publisher’s cloth, image of a George Rickey sculpture in silver on cover, original illustrated dust jacket; in excellent condition. Presentation copy signed by Rickey to Norm Applebaum on the half-title and dated January 24, 2000. First edition. Rickey (1907-2002) was an American sculptor known for his abstract kinetic designs. He was one of two twentieth-century sculptors (along with the mobiles of Alexander Calder) to make movement a central interest in his work. In addition to the wonderful photographs of his kinetic sculptures, this work includes a biographical outline, chronologies of Rickey’s major commissions, exhibits and catalogues, a listing of works in public collections, a list of his film and taped interviews, a bibliography and an index.

Norm Applebaum, who passed away in March of this year (2020), was a celebrated architect, winner of the Robert Mosher Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. He is best known for his modernist designs of single-family homes, the “quintessential California home.”.
