Publisher’s cloth, title within decorated border in gilt on front cover; there appears to be a bookplate removed from the paste-down, otherwise interior excellent. The author’s presentation copy to Oliver Wendell Holmes with his inscription on the fly-leaf dated the first of January, 1869. First edition. The illustrations include the frontispiece of Andreas Vesalius, Rembrandt’s painting of Nicholas Tulp and his pupils entitled “Lesson in Anatomy” and an illustrations of Harvey’s demonstration of the circulation of the blood to Charles I.
