A little boy's idyllic life is interrupted by World War II, during which he faces occupation before escaping and becoming a war refugee in the United States, where he hopes to train as a pilot and deliver supplies to children who suffered as he did. Printed according to wartime restrictions on paper, this book is one of the hardest of the D'Aulaire publications to find in nice condition. It is especially scarce inscribed. 12'' (truncated)
