A lengthy medical handbook that covers anatomy and physiology, acute fevers, inflammatory disorders, typhus, apoplexy, palsy, “madness,” hysteria, hypochondria, tetanus, epilepsy, syphilis, consumption, gastritis, and dropsy. For each ailment, the author provides information about diagnosis, symptoms, treatments, and prevention. Vol. I includes a biography of the late author by fellow physician John Bell.
Armstrong (1784-1829) was an English physician. He worked with the London Fever Institute and was a member of the College of Physicians. He wrote a number of books and published articles in various medical journals.
