The author includes a number of poems by the above-named poets such as “Man Addressed to Lord Byron” by Lamartine; “The Peri and the Fairy” by Victor Hugo; a number of short poems on liberty by Delavigne; and “The Swallows” by Bernager. Original poems are entitled “To Taste”; “Ode. To Fancy”; “To Sympathy”; “To Adversity”; “Song. To the tune of Moore’s Melody”; “To a Young Officer on his Kissing a Chain of a Lady’s Hair”; and “On the Death of a Favorite Canary.” Some fairly intense poetry from the author of Early lessons in rhyme for the use of children (published in Paris, 1855).
